AspireX desktop query

The keyboards on my other Acers (netbooks) allow me to switch from online to offline when I want to work offline. This new desktop seems to demand being "online" all the time no matter what. And I do not want to keep disconnecting and then reconnecting to the web. Question: is there an on/off switch of any kind on the keyboard?

OK I see what you are talking about. My HP laptop has a feature similar to yours, allowing you to switch offline. As far as I know, desktops do not have that feature.

Do you mean in a browser? I use Firefox 30.0 and the keys for working offline are Alt+FK (keep Alt down then hit Fand K keys). You can toggle back and forth. I don't know what it is for IE Explorer or Chrome.

Tried that and nothing happened, but thanks for responding.

What I need is this: the ability to start the acer up, turn off the wireless connection so I can use Word and other programs (photo editing, etc.) without being online. The only thing I seem able to do is disconnect the computer from my home network and then I have to reconnect each time I want to go online. I much prefer what my other acers had: a simple toggle that I pressed to go on or offline.

Let me explain this a bit more: on the laptop I am using there is a function key (F12) that allows me to have the wireless either off or on. Simple to switch back and forth - likewise the "charm bar" can be used to simply toggle back and forth for wifi.

On this new acer desktop neither option is available. Only completely "disconnecting" from the home network. If that is the only way to switch from online to offline, ok, I have no choice. But I am hoping there is a key somewhere that I am missing Smiley Happy

I think you are correct, BeeSee, as I can find nothing similar to what we both have on our laptops. But I wonder why this is so -- why this difference between laptop and desktop in this matter -- maybe someone from Acerville could answer that one Smiley Happy

    Hello kerrybrennan,

I use desktops for long time. Herewith my solution (not button):

Create a shortcut on your standard windows desktop for lan or wifi (Network and Sharing Center) and you enable or disable with the left click of your mouse.

For windows 8, you could use the right border or corner.
