W500 Keyboard/Dock USB port issues

I have a W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium.  The Keyboard/Dock works fine for the most part, but I have an issue with the USB ports on the dock.

If I plug a USB hard drive, a flash drive or a USB mouse into either of the 2 ports, the devices are recognized and work properly.

However, if I plug in my M-Audio Keystation 32, or my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to either of the 2 ports I get the following message, "USB Device Not Recognized".

If I plug either of these devices into the ports on the tablet itself, they work fine.

It makes no difference if the W500 is on battery power or plugged in.

The fact that the ports work for some devices and not others leads me to think it is software related, not hardware.  I thought perhaps the ports weren't delivering enough power so I tried using a USB split cable that plugs into both ports (to double the available current) and I get the same results.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Double check to verify that when the dock is connected the USB Host entry in Device Manager for the dock doesn't have any issues. The difference between an external USB hub (which the dock acts like) and an internal USB hub (which the builtin port looks like) does involve some simple drivers, but they should be loading automatically when you plug in. If they're not loading you might try forcing a driver update or removing the device and allowing the system to reinstall it next time you hook up.

    Thanks for your reply.

When the dock is connected, there are no "bangs" by any of the entries in Device Manager, USB or otherwise.

I disconnected the dock and tried to uninstall all of the listings under Universal Serial Bus but I can't get through them all because the computer stops responding.

There isn't a chipset driver listed on the driver page for this model that I can update.

I'm hoping I don't have to reinstall Windows.

Yeah, one of the USB devices is your touchscreen... Don't want to disable that one!
