I wish to upgrade my laptop from 8 to 12 GB RAM (I have checked and max RAM is 12 GB for my model Aspire V5) and want to know if anyone has successfully done that and specifically what RAM to use for the upgrade, and do I need to discard current RAM when I upgrade so all is the same?

    hi...Man Surprised

You may first check the memory size that you currnetly  have onboard and socket.

This model has 4GB of single-channel, onboard DDR3L system memory (soldered to main board),
This model is upgradable to 12 GB of dual-channel DDR3L system memory using a single soDIMMmodule

There is one DIMM socket and  the supports memory size per socket 2/4/8 GB
This socket supports DIMM Speed 1333/1600 SODIMM and  DIMM voltage 1.35V (1.283V–1.45V) with Standard JEDEC 204-pin modules.

If you wish to upgrade you need to replace the memory modules in the socket to 8 GB single module.
You need to discard the memory module sinec only one socket is avaliable for memory module.
