Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had any information on the availability of the w700 in the uk?

Scan.co.uk had it listed as 4th of Jan but now states item is overdue!

Any info would be great as the longer this goes on, im getting more and more tempted to pick up the duo 11 from Sony or to wait until the end of the month and pick up the Surface Pro Smiley Sad

U probably should wait for the surface pro for the problems the w700 is facing with wi fi and throttling, at least microsoft usually has a good support, a thing we cant say about acer, either way the w700 in some countries is supposed to be available by 18th of january so maybe thats a better date? Also keep in mind that the w700 in the uk, the i3 version is a sandy bridge and not an ivy bridge like in the usa/brasil/south america in general.

Keep in mind the surface pro should be around the same price of the W700-6691 NT.L0EAA.004, and with sd card slot and probably not 1 of the 2 major bugs of the w700, im going to the uk in the 25th of january returning the 3rd of february, hopefully ill be able to get a surface pro there. The only problem to me is that the battery has about half of the w700 battery life and i cant even imagine if we try a little gaming on it oO.

The Sandy bridge i3 is priced way way cheaper than the ivy bridge version. Plus the sandy bridge version does not appear to be affected by the throttling issue, therefore the only thing you have to do is update your WiFi driver and everything appears to be fine after that.

As for the Surface pro, the battery life is only 4 hours as stated by Microsoft, while w700 has around 8 hours of battery life.

The i3 doesnt have intel boost so it couldnt throttle the same way. As for the Surface pro i adressed that battery problem, but its the only problem i dont think microsoft will release an i5 with throttling problems unlike acer, or at least they would fix it somehow, cause its probably a bios thing so a good firmware would take care of it.

Another thing regarding the ivy bridge, the only explanation i can find for secrewing europeans is cause they really dont seem to care much about europeans and ofc its because they are trying to get rid of old sandy bridge stocks.

About the Surface pro x acer w700,  i would prefer the w700 mainly cause of the price (if they sold the i3/hd4000 in europe), and specs, but after all these problems specially the throttling and lack of aknowledgment and support ill get the surface pro since the cheapest goes around the same price +/- (ofc ill buy later the keyboard cover when i can afford it). Its a shame about the battery but ill mainly use it plugged in anyway.

I have a W700/i5/128 ordered at Scan. I am asked them about this today and they said their overdue stock is supposed to be arriving tomorrow. Of course I am a little sceptical about this, as the due date has already been put back 3 times, however, they have always kept me informed, even if it is just to tell me of another delay, so this time may be different...

Also, I appreciate the throttling and wifi problems people are having, but I am hopeful these will be sorted out for everyone soon... problems like this are not (unfortunately) uncommon with new devices, and seem to be just software rather than hardware, thankfully...

I do believe with a fix on the bios it would be possible to fix the throttling, if samsung can do it, why not acer?!

The problem is i believe if they dont fix it by the end of the month there will be no point in buying this because of microsofts surface pro.

I agree the Surface Pro looks like a nice device - I was tempted to wait for this, particularly given the delays to the Acer devices - but for me anyway the reported battery life is a little short (42Wh compared to 54Wh on the W700 makes a big difference to me). The price should be similar,Surface perhaps slightly more expensive.

Its  a shame about the battery, on the other hand the sd card slot is an awesome feature ^^ and hopefully without the other problems of the acerw700, and about the price, hopefully will be around the same, worst case scenario it will be 100 more and of course not forgetting the keyboard cover is an accessory and probably around 150.

For those interested in actually buying one of these in the UK - just got a note from Scan saying my order has been picked so is presumably ready for dispatch. On their website they are also listing both models as "in stock". Hopefully then this will arrive tomorrow...

can u confirm the i3 model is still the sandy bridge?

    Also will u receive accessories?

Yes, the i3 version is listed as the HD3000/Sandy Bridge; either processor for me was plenty powerful enough - it was just the 128GB of storage that I went for (although I appreciate I can probably replace the SSD). It just says cradle and keyboard - nothing about a case or anything else - so I will see what is actually in the box if/when it appears... One of the products that does seem to be easy to find are cases for these devices... To be fair too, although the Scan model is not the cheapest it can be bought for, they do have good customer service and it is still pretty reasonable
