W510 Windows 8.1 'power button' icon

Hello;

I have recently acquired a W510, works great, updated to Windows 8.1 including KB2919355, 442 updates and according to Microsoft, a new 'power button' icon could potentially appear (depending on the manufacturers' implementation I guess) next to the 'search' icon, but it does not. I wonder is there a chance to bring up the 'power button' icon at all ? or this is an Acer designed theme ? Thanks.

    Turns out there is a registry hack that can turn it off or on. it's off by default for tablets and on by default for laptops and desktops. Give it a try and see if that gets the behavior you want.

    The 'new' power button is displayed at top right of the Start Menu screen. Do you not have one there?

    No, it is not there, all it has is the 'user name' 'user pic' 'search icon' that is. Any clues how to bring it up ? Thanks a million.

    Great stuff 'billsey', now the 'power icon' majically appears, I am happy, now I can do most things on screen without resorting to the edges (it is long-winded sometimes) or other physical hardware. I am not sure if you work for Acer, if you do thank you for your professional response, if not thank you for your plain kindness to help.
