Updating the Recovery Partition

I have an Acer R7-571 that originally came with Windows 8.0 installed.  I have gone through and updated it to 8.1 (the latest update through Microsoft) which can drag on all day.

My question is this, The backup recovery partition installed at the factory is still Windows 8, not 8.1.  If I every have to use it, I would basically need to blow away my laptop and update, then upgrade to 8.1 via many downloads and reboots.

Can the Recovery partition be updated to hold Windows 8.1?  How well supported/easy is it to do?

I don't see this mantioned anywhere in the forums or KB.

NO! the  factory recovery partition can not be updated, however you CAN use imaging software (eg Macrium Reflect Free / Acronis or similar) to make an image copy of the OS partition that you can use to restore the system to exactly as it was when you made the copy.
