Which Recovery Disks do I start with?

Several device drivers so not load, errors with DLLs, the ability to paw down to close an app is now replaced with a silly title bar that I have to use the X to close, and these tool tips appear from the side of the screen (very large ones) that I cannot close ever.

And my system is excessively slow. Super ridiculous mouse resonse time causes obvershoot of targets when mousing.

So now I am about to use the disks that came with my tablet to reinstall Windows 8 from scratch.

DO I boot first fro the System disk, and then use the Recovery disks?

All of my data files are now backed up...ready to do this.

    I have the Iconia W700

Oh, I just discovered the Chat with Support on the Acer site, and discovered this:

First, you have to boot the tablet using system disc, then insert the Recovery disks per the instructions on the screen.
    But...
Before using the recovery disc, you have to disable the secured boot in the BIOS screen.

Use the following steps to enter UEFI on your ICONIA W700:
Power down the system completely ---> Press and hold the Windows logo button and Power button until the Acer logo appears on-screen and then release the button

Then, the tablet will access the BIOS screen automatically ---> Select boot tab to disable the secured boot option.
Also, the option to change the boot priority is available in the same boot tab. Set it to boot off the CD/DVD

Then save and exit the BIOS setup.
MAke sure the System disk is in the DVD drive, and boot off of the disk.
    Follow the instructions from there.

Well, actually not so good news.

I tried this, and had the following difficulty preventing the recovery:

    Disabled the secure boot.

    Booted off the System DVD

after a minute or so, got a message dialog stating that this recovery is only possible with secure boot.

So the Legacy BIOS boot will ot work with that disk

So I tried settig the boot order to CD first, and enabling secure boot.

But in secure boot mode, it is always booting from the hard drive, no matter what I set the boot order to.

    ....

OK, I am being told that the solution to this is to format the hard drive, then boot in secure mode to the DVD

    ...

Can anyone tell me a good formatting software to use? This has to be one that will boot in legacy mode from CD or DVD.

I would go back to Chat support. They should get you an answer to the problem.

    Tinkerer

don't format anything, it's useless. connect a usb keyboard with hub, select your dvd boot device (usually F12) and it should boot from recovery media. At least, you should see the device in boot menu. If it tries to boot but nothing happens, you got wrong disks. I wouldn't think secure boot will matter here, but try both ways (on and off).
