Replacement of hard drive requires a startup from DVDs or USB Drives.

My new 'working' Win 8.1 Astire XC-603 boots directly to the hard disk. No ACER logo flashes on screen at bootup and provcedures to modify UEFI to change boot device order lead only to a blank screen. What do I do to restore from a USB drive which contains a full disk image if I need to replace the drive in future? Computer works fine and fast now. Just thinking ahead.

    Hi..

Turn on the computer and keep tapping the Del key to enter into the BIOS.

Select the Security tab and set a Supervisor password.

Select the Boot page and then Disable Secure Boot.

If you see "Launch CSM" as an option in the BIOS, select "Always".

Under Boot priority order, use the arrow buttons to set the DVD drive (if you are using DVDs) or select USB HDD (if you use USB recovery media) to the top of the boot priority order.

Plug in the USB recovery media or insert the disc into the DVD drive.

Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.

When prompted, select Restore Operating System to Factory Defaults.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.

Note: This process will erase all data from the hard drive, make sure that you backup the data before proceed.

That would be great but, my Win 8.1 Astire XC-603 boots directly to the hard disk. No ACER logo flashes on screen at bootup, no chance to hit 'del', f2' or anything. I can see how secure this makes a pc free from tampering. Even the Windows based 'PC Settings" process dosn't allow a stated restart into the BIOS. I guess I'll do the perscribed full system image backus and it a failed hard disk happens, I bought a 2 year service contract from FRY'S.

Thanks for your suggestion but as an old time comuter geek I tried everything except opening the box and looking for jumpers to change. I suspect if I installed a clean hard disk, installed a basic WIN 8 I could restore from my backups then,

Found the solution. Mine has 2 active monitor ports. The Acer and boot to bios information appears ONLY on the HDMI port connected monitor.
