G246HL Monitor suddenly recognized as Generic Non PnP

I have had my new PC now for about 4 months, it is using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, i have a Nvidia GTX 770 2GB, i7 4770, and 16GB RAM. I have used a HDMI cable to connect my GPU to my Acer G246HL monitor capable of 60Hz at 1920x1080p resolution.

This morning, after only being turned off for less than 12 hours, the monitor is no longer recognized through the HDMI port and is known only as Generic non PnP Monitor, here my resolution is stuck at 1240x768.

I tried re installing drivers for my GPU and drivers for the monitor with no luck, and also rolled back my PC to a date before a recent Windows Update. However the problem still continues.

I am only able to fix this problem if i use a DVG cable to connect my PC to my monitor, which recognizes the Acer model and lets me use 1920x1080p.

My problem is, i don't know if it is a hardware problem or software problem. I had rolled back before Windows updates and installs and that made no difference, but i had been using the PC after these updates with no problems last night.

I'm also not sure if it is a hardware problem, as the HDMI port does work but just doesn't recognize the monitor anymore unlike the other ports available on the card.

Is this a software update issue? Is it to do with my Graphics card or monitor? Please help!

No suggestions? I am still stuck with the HDMI port not recognizing the monitor and thus not being able to use 1920x1080
