aspire - m : your PC needs to be repaired

I have loved my aspire until now -- it won't boot up and instead after the acer logo page I get the following: your pc needs to be repaired. The boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information. File: \BCD Error code: oxcooooood. Why does this even happen? Last night the machine was fine, this morning, it's not.

The  machine is almost a year and half old. I have no idea of what to do and can't seem to get to any e-recovery options. I can buy the recovery files, but the other glitch is that I need to be able to use the thumbdrive option because my machine doesn't read cd's and the recovery thumbdrive isn't given as an option on this model and there doesn't seem to be anyone I can ask.

Also, I am desperate to save the files off of it -- I've been meaning to back them up, but of course never did. Ugh.

Thanks for any help.

    hi... Smiley Happy

Could you confirm the exact model number of your computer?

Does the ssytem have windows 7 or windows 8?

To backup the data, you neeed to

take the hard drive off your computer and slave boot it with another computer to transfer the files from your computer's hard disk to another one.

    Thanks!

    The model is...hmmm...: m5-481PT-6488 (or maybe Z09).

Windows 8 - has been updated

Is removing the hard drive something I can do? Are there videos for that?

    Appreciate your help!

    hi...

You may check by resetting the computer using the reset pin hole at the bottom of your computer. Insert a paperclip into the hole and press for four seconds to reset the computer

If you have a unit from US or Canada, you may also live chat with an Acer technician at : Acer live chat

If you have purchased the computer in any other country, you may contact Acer support here : Acer Global Support

Thanks. I took it to get repaired: they used windows 8 dvd to boot to a command line then ran a series of bootrec commands and the laptop now boots to windows logon. Took about 10 minutes.
