Unable To Update To Windows 8.1

Hi, I've just now gotten the time to try and update to Windows 8.1 but it won't let me. When downloading, it gets to ~50% and then restarts the download. I've contacted Windows support and they gave me commands to input into Command Prompt (like resetting windows cache, resetting windows update, etc) which didn't help, and when I said that they said that I could either do a thing requiring the Windows 8 disk (which I didn't get), or that I would have to buy the upgrade CD for Windows 8.1, which I don't think I should have to do for a free upgrade. From other research I've done, I've just updated the BIOS and that didn't help either. I just now noticed that next to my model on Acer's chart, Aspire V3-571G , it has a little 4 that means "Intel® does not supply drivers for computers with 2nd generation Intel® CoreTM (i3, i5 or i7-2xxx), Pentium® dual-core G6 or G8, or Celeron® G4, G5 or 8 series processors." Does this mean that I cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1?

You should still be able to update to Windows 8.1. Have you loaded all of the available Windows updates? If you have, and still can't install the Win 8.1 update, you may try reloading Winodws, then try downloading the update again after installing Windows updates. You can reload Windows using the link below.

I have loaded all Windows updates. I really don't want to reload Windows because I don't really want to lose all of my files since I don't have a external hard drive large enough to do a full backup. The only reason I really want 8.1 is to have to boot to desktop, so I guess it's not a huge deal.
