Hi all,
I have an Aspire E1-522 that refuses to display anything on the lid display, but functions normally with an external display. (still no image on built in display though) That is to say it boots up fine and does everything that it should, except display anything on the built in screen. I'm actually using it right now, connected to an external monitor.
Occasionally it will show the Acer logo on startup and then go blank again, typically leaving the backlight on when it does. Even more occasionally it will keep the display on long enough to log in to windows and use it for a minute or two, and then it will switch off the display.
My first port of call was to remove the battery and disconnect the power for a full power down but that did nothing.
I thought this was a hardware fault, but I think I ruled that out by booting to a live Ubuntu disc and it behaved normally, using the built in display for half an hour or more with no problem.
I tried a driver update in Windows, it's now running AMD Catalyst 14.4 (driver version 14.10.1006), but that didn't change anything.
I have checked the BIOS version, but it's already running the latest version.
I tried a windows repair and then a factory restore. The windows repair made no difference, but the factory restore seemed to work for a few hours - until my wife picked up the computer the next day and it played up again (it's her computer).
I'm about to try the live Ubuntu disc again just to thoroughly rule out a hardware fault for sure, but I'm hoping that someone else has some suggestions for me to try?
Cheers,...Jon.
