Just purchased the Predator model AG3-605-UR23. Just needed to know what type of Bluray Writer I can use (I need suggestions on an internal Bluray Writer, as I need to burn blurays of my personal home videos)? Is there an available slot or will I need to SWAP out the DVD burner? Again, any suggestions on the type or model interal bluray writer will be appreciated!

    Hi ntouched,

Looking through the process, there is only one bracket to hold the optical disk drive, and it appears to be a slim drive (not your standard 5.25" drive). I believe you could just replace the current one with a Bluray burner fairly easily.

If you're not sure how to do it, I might recommend looking at an external burner. With USB 3.0, this unit has 2, you probably wouldn't noticed a difference between an internal vs and external burner. They're roughly 30-50% more, but there are some benefits of being portal, and not having to get inside the case, which could cause some warranty issues.

As far as brands go, I can't make a recommendation, maybe someone else can. Smiley Happy

    Hope this helps,

    Cory

I'll just swap out the current drive. I found this online (LG WH16NS40) It's an internal SATA blue ray. I think this should work? Do the dimensions below look ok? Again, I'm just going to swap out (replace) the internal drive.

    • DIMENSIONS (W x H x D)
    • 5.7" x 1.6" x 6.5" (146 x 41.3 x 165mm)

I don't believe that drive will fit. The spacing and bracket are for a slim drive from the images I looked at. You may want to check your current burner.

What are the dimensions of the drive? When I say I'm going to swap out, I actually meant, TAKING TO STAPLES OR OFFICE DEPOT TECH CENTER to swap out. But I need to know WHAT SIZE DRIVE I should order. I don't want to take it to computer center, have tech open and then have tech recommend. You're the ACER tech. Can't you give me the specs of the drive that in the computer to swap out, or even recommend an ACER INTERNAL BLURAY WRITER for my Predator computer. Thank you very much!!!!

    ntouched,

I apologize, I'm not trying to frustrate you. I am a bit limited on how I can support putting a 3rd party device into our system becuase we only support what comes in it. So on Monday, I'll get the PN and the description of the original optical drive.

If I wasn't clear earlier, excuse me. I looked at pictures, and it's a slim drive. If you google 'slim internal blu-ray burner', you'll find some, you'll also find some of the blockier one's like the spec you provided. I don't know the dimensions of slim optical drives, but it's a pretty common standard so it shouldn't be hard to match.

As far as a recommendation, I can't recommend another brand, and Acer doesn't sell an blu-ray burner independently. Hopefully others in the community will drop by and be able to provide better consumer opinions.

    Cory,

Thanks for your support. I can wait til Monday for the specs on that drive. My computer isn't scheduled for delivery until Thurday!  So if I understand you correctly, a standard internal bluray "SLIM" type drive should be sufficient. I'll wait for those specs, but will surf the net a bit for slim bluray internal writers.

    Hi Troy,

The original drive that comes with this predator is a "Super-Multi 8x 12.7MM Tray W/O BEZEL" and the part number is KO.0080D.006

The Super-Multi just refers to the DVD and CD burner capabilities.

    Hope this helps,
