Hard Drive Crash--Aspire 7741G

My hard drive on my Aspire 7741G crashed.  It was a WD6400BEVT.  I purchased a replacement WD7500BPVX and installed it.  I tried to install drivers from my Windows 7 repair disk, and nothing I do will be recognized by the new drive.  Of course, the Recovery utility was lost when I could not access the old drive.

Any suggestions?

    Hello Mapoman,

You didn't choice the correct HDD:

    WD6400BEVT: SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II) - Cache: 8 Mb

    WD7500BPVX: SATA 6Gb/s (SATA III) - Cache: 8 Mb. It's not compatible

You made a little mistake because WD7500BPVT: SATA 3Gb/s

Is the SATA III drive not compatible with the computer's motherboard?  I assumed (perhaps incorrectly) it would work fine.

It is my understanding that SATA 3 drives are backward compatible and that it should work.
