I have posted this issue before , but despite changing the power supply I still get it ? To get round the problem I do a forced restart and then ask it to load windows normally ....then no problem any ideas? Can you do a test on a POST test ?

please find below original posting :

lHi Folks, Can you help me with an issue... I have been using this laptop for sometime without issue and am using windows 7  Ultimate . At first I had issues with the icons when I opened a particular programme Icon I would get another programme?

Then I thought its just an error and undertook a restart ..then I got continous pinging , but windows launches after 30-45 seconds, but with some of the issues previously stated ... I then took out the ram and ensured they were clean and installed firmly and restarted , but the same issue continued ? I then cleaned the system and also checked for viruses but all came back clean. My next stage was to flash the bios and again still had the pinging ? Stumped on this I decided to take the laptop to a computer specialist , but only took the laptop and not the power supply ... when I got there I went to demonstrate the problem but couldnt ? I tried 5 times by closing down and restarting and all the icons worked with no bleeping , I couldnt believe it .. I took the laptop back at home plugged in the power supply and back came the bings and errors ? SO BY CHANCE it appears to be something to do with power ? I let the laptop run down a little and then undertook a restart ..NO Pinging ? so what is it ? any ideas ...the other issue I suffer with is when typing the cursor jumps to the top of the window I am typing in ? also when its having a fling when you scroll down it immediatly jumps back ...Its got me stumped !!! PS: I have also undertaken a restore to a previous date and still no go .. again I have used this laptop many times before with the same supply and no issues like this whatsoever !!!

This sounds as would be a key of your keyboard stuck. Maybe there is something under any of your keys of the printed wire layer and it is broken at some point. You could try to press on different areas of the keyboard to look whether this is breaking the ping sound.

Another possibility is that your Windows feature for input guidance is activated, than your keyboard would behave very different inclusive pinging sounds. Check if this is all turned off.

I don't know what's exactly the name for this Windows function in english, because I'm using the german version of Windows. But there exists a function in Windows that can help blind people or other handicapped people with extended signaling and changed appliance of some input components. For example the keyboard.

....Ok , what I did was to restart this morning and away it goes pinging ....SO ...I pressed al the keys like a piano and also slid my fingers each way to brush the keyboard as it was pinging ... also remebered to push the separate function buttons at the top ...by then the pinging had stopped and the sytem booted to windows ..THEN ...there was an input undertaking a registry change of some sort , plus an update installation ie 30\% 50% 100% then booted fully into windows 7 ...so closed down re-started ... and NOW no ping .... Have done this restart several times during the day and it seems to be Ok .. How odd ...but whatever it was your tip worked thanks .......NOW one more long standing issue to resolve and perhaps I can put this one out to anyone on the board if you cannot help :

Microphone on this model appears to be VERY POOR .... Tried it with Skype (testing) and the sound output is great but the recording is so low or not at all.... I have looked at all the suggestions of setting up skype , tried every configuration that Isaw listed , but no go ..SO ...de-installed skype and reinstalled ...STILL the same ...OK so I purchased a mini microphone that now sits in the mic jack ...when I plug it in windows 7 notes that I have inserted something in the audio port ..GREAT ... BUT ...still cannot configure windows 7/ Skype to use this external mike. AND cannot here anything at all now ? .....HELP its killing me ...remember this is an Acer 7720 running windows 7 ultimate and I am using Skype 6.16.0.105 there is no exclamation marks in device manager.... HELP ...HELP

Mmm I am sorry to say the pinging has started again .... This is becoming a mystery ...If there is a problem at POST then is there a log I can look at to see what this is really going on here?

    regards Paul
