acer s7 problems

Hello. I recently bought an acer s7 - 391 and i experience the following problems:

1. i have contrast changes when i swipe trough different apps. for example, when i open the music app, the background looks like it's moving, it wobbles, and the quality of the screen turns very bad.. the colors appear very high in contrast. if i go back to start, the quality starts to look good again, in about 10 seconds. what could it be? i updated the graphic card driver to the latest. nothing.

2. the trackpad is quite bad. when i move the cursor on diagonal, it is not moving straight, but looks like it's drowing some waves, some " s " shapes. ...

3. the display has grey spots in the bottom corners. it also loses some light..

4. my keyboard registers 2 strokes when i press some keys. i type as slowly and as carefully as i can, but it still does.

i think i will go in service with it. does anyone experienced the same problems as i did?

thanks!

    Good day

Mainboard is unstable due to the mainboard controller being faulty. Take it to the repair centre for mainboard replacement.

Hi, saw that you had some grey corners on your last S7. After servicing does your screen still have grey corners?

I have 2 on mine (bottom left and right) and is wondering if it is normal or should I have it servced.

It is sad that there is do many problems with this laptop. I returned mine for another brand. Try to see if you can do the same if you are unhappy about the s7.

The Acer features auto contrast as well as auto-brightness. I have found no way to disable this. If you go from a very bright image to a darkish one, and look closely you will see small pulses as the auto-contrast kicks in step by step. It balances out a combination of backlight brightness and contrast to optimise the image currently being displayed but it doesn't do it smoothly. This is a design issue though and not a fault.

I have the same issue with double characters when I type. I created a thread in this site dedicated to that issue.

The thing about the contrast changes is that it only appears when the computer is on battery, NOT when the laptop is plugged in. i am going in service for the second time now. this is a great laptop as a concept, but it is manufactured with no quality control...

    hello,

i solved the problem about the display's auto-contrast

    1) remove the acer power manager application that enter in conflict with intel's display power saving technology (acer power manager force the activation of intel's display power saving technology every reboot)

    2) disable the intel's display power saving technology in the intel graphics and media control panel (this power saving technology cause the display's auto-contrast)

I'm glad to have been hopeful!!!! Smiley Happy

    Remain:

      - The touchpad issue (it isn't accurate)

      - The backlight keyboard makes buzzing sound

      - The keyboard sometimes repeat characters

      - The screen problem about grey spots in the corners

But i'm pretty sure they are manufacturing problems of the s7 that will not be repaired.

One qustion: i have an s7-391 53314g12aws (i5 3317u and 128gb ssd) and today i've seen in the Acer's italian website that there is new i5 (and i7 but is not my instance) model (s7-391 53334g12aws) with different processor (i5 3337u). Maybe in this model Acer have solved these problems?

In the UK, they released the newer processor versions without telling anyone or announcing a new model. I have had an i5 version since mid January that already had the newer 3337 processor (1.8GHz). Basically Intel have stopped making the old processors so Acer had no choice but to use the newer one which is exactly the same for both i5 and i7, just 0.1 GHz faster processing speed.

The only other difference is that the touchpad is better mounted and doesn't have the free-play that the earlier ones had. Everything else remains the same.

Curiously Acer Italy says 3 cell battery for the new ones, vs 4 cell for the old models. I think that is probably a mistake. Also Italy says the newer ones have Windows 8 Pro. It will be interesting to see if that aspect is true.

Luckily my touchpad is fitted well. Smiley Very Happy

In the Italian Acer's website the newer s7 with i5 3337u have 4-cell battery (the newer i7 version have 3-cell but is certainly a mistake) with 4680mAh and windows 8 pro, these are the only difference with the previously version.

    Thanks for reply
