DVD not finding any disks

Aspire 5750-6414

DVD drive: Pioneer DVR-TD11RS

The above Optical drive will not recognize inserted media.  Device driver tells me the device is functioning properly, and it seems to look for the disk when I install one, but it never finds it.

Any troubleshooting suggestions welcome.

I do suspect it's a hardware failure though.  Where could I find a replacement for this drive?

Thanks,

Dave

    hi...

    You may run this Microsoft fix it tool and check if the issue is resolved.
    FixIt tool for windows 8   FixIt tool for windows 7

    You may also check by refreshing the CD drive drivers.
    Open device manager, expand CD drive > click on the cd drive name > Right click and uninstall it.
    Then click on Action > scan for hardware changes, the CD drive will be restored automatically.

    You may please remember to use Kudos kudos_thumb.png and select Accept Solution  if your issue is resovled.

    Thanks for the reply Sharanji.  Tried both fix-it and driver uninstall/reinstall.  Neither helped.

    Well i would try this:

    Put a dvd disk or a cd disk and leave it in and then restart the computer and in the start if it does not scan it then i will say your dvd drive is not working how it should.

    The drive appears to look for a disk, but doesn't find it.

    Try this

    Start the Run Command Prompt

    Type in "regedit" without the parrenthesis then click ok

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

    Then SYSTEM

    Then CURRENT CONTROL SET

    Then CONTROL

    Then CLASS

    Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    The whole thing looks like this:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    Then delete the upper and lower filters....

    Restart the computer and try if it will work

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro

    l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    No upper or lower filter listed under that key.

    Found an exact replacement drive online and ordered that.  But replacing the drive itself did not solve the problem.

    So I am back to looking for a software issue, or (please no!) a mainboard issue.

    When I put in a disk and close the drive, I can hear the laser come off the stop and the disk rotate slowly - no high speed spinup.  Also sounds like it is seaching, but not finding.

    The failure occured while I was buring music to a disk if that matters.
