V7-581 Numlock question

My V7-581 has a number pad on the right side of the keyboard, however this acts as cursor movement unless numlock is turned on.

The problem is that if I turn numlock on then the main keyboard also types numbers instead of letters.

For example "iop" becomes "56*"

How can i turn the number pad on whilst not affecting the main keyboard?

Thanks

    Hello deefer,

    Have you checked in Device manager if you have any "?" on a device?

    Have you tried with an external usb keyboard?

    To see if this main keyboard (letters)and this number pad work nice.

    No, I don't have one.

    I just don't see the point of having a keyboard with a seperate number pad when they cannot be used together.

    If I press numlock (turn it on) I can use the number pad, but the keyboard (or part of it) also becomes a numberpad

    j=1

    k=2

    l=3 etc etc

    then to use the keybard I have to press numlock (turn it off) again, but then I cannot use the numberpad.

    Bloody stupid.

    Try this.

    To load default settings in Bios Setup Utility:

    1. Restart your laptop
    2. Press F2 to enter in the bios setup utility when you see Acer screen
    3. Press F9 Setup Defaults
    4. Press F10 Save and Exit - Reply YES
    5. Your laptop restart automatically

    Is it still under warranty?

    I think the issue is a default connection (keyboard/motherboard), a keyboard default or a motherboard default.

    yes it is still under warranty, however I would rather fix it myself as the last time i sent a laptop back (faulty mainboard) it took just over a month to get it back and I am not prepared to wait that long again.

    If you disassemble it, the warranty no longer works...

    doesn't really matter, as if it breaks it will go in the bin anyway.

    My options right now are;

    1) find a probable cause and fix it

    2) buy a laptop that works the way it is meant to

    I see that you've sent the unit in previously and are not interested in doing so again, but I would strongly suggest contacting your local support team. Unfortunately it is possible that when the MB was replaced it was not configured properly with the system and that is why you're encountering the issue where the numlock is also affecting the area of the keyboard that is designed to use the numpad when it there is not a separate numpad section like your unit.

    I apologize for the inconvenience, but I hope this help.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Please can you tell me how to edit MB configuration specific to the keyboard.

    Thanks

    There is not a program or set of instructions that you can perform. I believe it requires reflashing and reconfiguring components on the MB itself. Again, I'm only speculating on a very small portion of information. I could be wrong, but the support team would be better equiped to assist.
