Hello...I am new to this site.

I have an ASPIRE 5742Z and am trying to delete programs I no longer use.  When I go to my avitar is has my name and under t it says ADMINISTRATOR.   But the acount type screen does not have me chcked as an administrator and won't let me change it.

I am the only person  using my computer but am not recognised as the administrator.  Help please.

What happens when you try to uninstall the programs from Control Panel?

It tells me "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."

Also How do I get rid of "mysearchdial? "
Why did it suddenly show up on my computer?
Do I have a malware somewhere?

This one of the programs I am trying to remove

Thanks for responding Jack.  I appreciate any assistance you can give me.

Also my original Microsoft starter programs XL and Word seemed to have uninstalled themselves and have reverted to very old versions.

    UGH!!  I hate computers!!!!

Don't worry about mysearchdial right now. Probably something you clicked in your browser. Are you running Win7 or Win8? And did you just notice that you couldn't delete programs as admin or is this something that happened recently?

    Enable Hidden Administrator Account

The account is created in Windows 7, 8, or Vista, but since it’s not enabled you can’t use it. If you are troubleshooting something that needs to run as administrator, you can enable it with a simple command.

Note: You really shouldn’t use this account for anything other than troubleshooting. In fact, you probably shouldn’t use it at all.

    Enable Built-in Administrator Account

First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator”

    1.png

If you are in Windows 8.x you can right-click on the Start button and choose to open a command prompt that way.

    2.png

    Now type the following command:

    Spoiler
    net user administrator /active:yes

     3.png

You should see a message that the command completed successfully. Log out, and you’ll now see the Administrator account as a choice. (Note that the screenshots are from Vista, but this works on Windows 7 and Windows 8)

You’ll note that there’s no password for this account, so if you want to leave it enabled you should change the password.

    Disable Hidden Administrator Account

Make sure you are logged on as your regular user account, and then open an administrator mode command prompt as above. Type the following command:

    Spoiler
    net user administrator /active:no

    5.png

The administrator account will now be disabled, and shouldn’t show up on the login screen anymore.

How do I get to something that i can use as an administrator.  My avitar SAYS that I am an administrator BUT it is not the box that is checked below the avitar.  The administrator selection is greyed out.

Did you try a System Restore?

Did you scan your system with any antivirus, as it can be affected with Virus or Malware

If not, Please give it a try

Yes I did both, but system restore only goes back 4 days.  I use McAfee.  I have the original Acer Restore disks.  Do you think that I should try using those??

Actually after months of frustration I bought a brand new Dell (it was an Acer, Ha!) on the shopping chanel.  It had win 8 and I hated it.  SOOOO many pop up ads and big boxes linking to stuff I never use  AND it was SLOWER than the laptop I have now!!  I sent it back last week and am hoping I can get this one runninng smoothly.

I really don't want to have to learn a new system.  I am 72 and the brain just does not absorbe like it used to.  (-:

OK.... I looked up command prompt and found out how to access command prompt in
the start menu.  When I followed your instructions the black screen came up with  c:\Windows\system32>   When I typed in spoiler on that line  it says  'spoiler' is not  recognized as an internal or external command,

    c:\Windows\system32>

Now what??  Thanks for your help.

No, Puzzled, not the word spoiler. I think Ajay wants you to enter "net user administrator /active:yes" at the command prompt but without the quotation marks.  Then go from there.
