Acer Aspire 8940G Bluetooth issues

I have been using the Bluetooth feature on my Aspire 8940G for many months now—with improved functionality after a BIOS update—but recently, the device has stopped working. Here are the symptoms:

  • When I select Bluetooth on/off on the left-hand touchpads, I get a flashing blue light (normal on behavior)
  • When I install the drivers, it detects that a Bluetooth radio is on the device (otherwise, it would not continue installation)
  • After all this, I can not get the Bluetooth tray icon to appear, nor can I access Bluetooth configuration in the Control Panel. The device won't even show up in the Device Manager.

Help?

Thanks.

After the BIOS update you might need to check all the BlueTooth settings that might have changed.  I believe that model uses a Broadcom chip, so you can use the BlueTooth software and drivers here: http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php

They also have information that might be of help to you.  The software there is the latest version and won't install if it's not right for your computer.

I actually ran that program before my original post; it stopped during the detection step, and told me that it could not upgrade my software, that I should contact the manufacturer.

Nevermind, actually. I have a game controller program that takes exclusive control of the Bluetooth adapter; I accidentally loaded up the drivers for that purpose. Sorry for the confusion. Smiley Very Happy
