Hello guys, so i have been searching the web to solve my laptop's problem and i can't seem to find an answer.. anyway, here's the problem. The audio on my laptop works fine but when I insert like for speakers and earphones to the SPDIF jack unto may laptop there is no sound coming out of the speaker/earphone.

I haven't found a solution, but sometimes it helps if i switch to Stand By for a few minutes.

Please, if someone finds a permanent fix to this, please let me know

  • The first thing to be aware of is that S/PDIF is a digital signal which cannot be output to analogue speakers or headphones.

If your laptop does not have an additional analogue audio output, it may be that your S/PDIF socket can be switched between analogue and digital. Have a look in you user guide if you have one. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any information on the 3683.

    One final thought:

Check your speaker settings for 'playback devices' you may be able to switch from there.

Hey, since you seemed to be able to help I was wondering if you'd be able to help me? With my device if I plug in a headset with a microphone then it doesn't register that it's a mirophone that I'm using and stays using the onebuilt into my laptop (which picks up my fan and makes it difficult) do you have any idea how to solve this?

    Thanks, Faye xx

    Faye,
A common reason for this can be that your headphone/mic plug is the wrong type.
Two types are common: two ring and tip and three ring and tip.
Check your machine requirements. If you have the wrong plug you will need to buy an adapter.
Once you have that sorted, you may need to check which mic is selected and, if wrong, simply switch to the other.

That's the thing; the headphones themselves work just not the mic xx

Yes, that's what I would expect if you have the wrong connector. Sounds like you do need an adapter. Check your documentation and take it from there.
