I recently purchased an Acer notebook  from a computer reseller.  The computer model is ZG5.  The computer only came with a power cord.  I do not have a operating system back-up disk.  The computer is running XP Professional.  The windows installer does not work, and I cannot install or update any of the applications.  I would like install the operating system which should be with the computer.  Where can I get a copy of it?

There are ways for you to recover the system, depending on what was done to the operating system and hard drive.

First, recovery media can be acquired through the Acer online store:  http://store.acer.com/

Second, we do ship our systems with a recovery partition that will allow you to reload to factory settings.  If that partition is still intact, you can use the second link above, Restoring outside of Windows, to return the system to the original shipping load.

    Hope that helps.

Where can I find information on the model ZG5?

The Aspire One systems labeled with the model ZG5 are actually an Aspire One AOA110 or an Aspire One AOA150. Any information will be listed under AOA110 and AOA150, rather than ZG5.

Tommy, thanks very much!  I saw the links on how to recover my system, which I think will be helpful.  I do have a question remaining, however.  The first few steps have me go to the "Start" menu and then select the "Acer Folder."  I do not have an Acer folder on my laptop.  I suspect that the reseller installed a software package he had available, and not necessarily what was designed for this machine.

Am I sunk, or is there a way to get the original software package, and start from there?

    TIA.
