V5 552 Screen Freeze and auto restarts

Hello

I am having trouble with my new laptop V5-552PG-X809 which i bought a week ago. Since its arrival it has given me following two problems:

1) It automatically restarts on its own. Mostly all I am doing is veiwing webpages or sometimes nothing and its just turned on but idle and it restarts. This has happened almost every single day now in last one week.

2) The screen also freezes sometimes with weird stuttered colors and the laptop does not respond. I will then have to manually shut it down and turn it on for it to work. See the image below how the screen looks like during this freeze.

Things I have done to try to fix it:

- Updated to latest BIOS

- Updated to Windows 8.1

- Updated AMD Radeon 8000 series driver

- Updated the wireless card driver

- Disabled the windows 8.1 fastboot option (after last auto freeze)

Any help on how to fix this issue or what do you think is causing this will be very helpful.

    Hi hammad16

As your laptop is brand new, contact the store you bought it from - they may be happy to exchange it. Otherwise, contact Acer support for your region to arrange a repair.

I bought it from eBay (unfortunately!) from Acer official vendor on eBay. I am getting good amount of resistance returning it and keep getting bounced as eBay tells me to contact Paypal (as i used guest paypal to pay or something) and when i contacted the seller they said you have to go through eBay, we cannot do anything otherwise :/

I was just hoping, it was some kind of software or driver issue or maybe something related to windows 8 that can be fixed easily.

I love the laptop otherwise but not liking this issue. Its actually a refurbished laptop and I thought maybe the manufacturer tests these laptops very thoroughly before selling them.

    Ah, I see!

Well, you've pretty much done what I would have suggested. It sounds as if you have an hardware issue - possibly the graphics card or your motherboard.

You could trying backing up & reinstalling Windows, but I think on this occasion, it may not help.

Try persevering with eBay - if you cannot succeed, then you may have to take it to your local reputable PC store to see if they can fix it.

Argh ! it happened again. I was hoping it was related to windows 8 fast start up or something but no even after disabling it it happened again and just randomly not even while running any high graphic stuff or anything.

I will try to file a claim with paypal to return this faulty this.

I really liked the specs but very disappointed :/
