E1 522 - Bluetooth not working on Windows 8.1

Just noticed yesterday that bluetooth is no longer working on my E1 522 notebook. I can turn it on and the drivers are up to date (downloaded and installed Atheros driver for 8.1 from the Acer support page) but it can't detect any external bluetooth devices and vice versa. Checking my Bluetooth Folder in Documents, I found the last successful transfer was in late December. This is the first time I've tried to use it since then. I've tried every solution posted on Google for this issue but no luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

    Hi shempster

I take it you updated from 8.0 to 8.1, and that the Bluetooth was working fine beforehand? Try using System Restore to a date in December when it was working.

If this fails to make it work, try obtaining the driver from Atheros driver downloads page. If you're not sure which version is in your E1-522 then see here on how to find out.

If the problem still prevails, then you could backup & revert back to 8.0, or perhaps ask at your local PC store if they can test it and/or replace the Bluetooth card.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've already downloaded the latest Bluetooth driver via the Acer support page and installed it, but it hasn't made any difference. System Restore won't allow me to go find an earlier date than 10 March 2014.

OK, well System Restore is no help!

Try the driver from the link I gave - it is worth a try and you'd have nothing to lose. Just make a restore point before you do, so you can revert back if need be!

Unfortunately I can't figure out what I am supposed to download from the page you linked to. And the exe I downloaded from the other link comes up blank when I use it.

My second link is to an Acer Support Video on how to use the Hardware Vendor Detection Utility, which you'll find on the "Drivers & Manual" section of Acer Support (once you've entered your details). This program should tell you which Bluetooth driver you need (from the first link).

Both links appear to be working for me, so perhaps they were down when you tried?

As I've already said, if you can't get it to work, get the Bluetooth card checked out - it is possible it may have failed...
