W510 finally working well...

I was having a lot of weird crashing and I was having to force reboot trying to get out of sleep mode with this thing.  I finally just did a CLEAN install from a Windows 8 dvd and now things are working much better.

Make sure you download the drivers before hand because without them the touch screen and wifi will not work after the install.  The usb port still works fine so youll have to mouse and keyboard it until you get the drviers reinstalled.

Oh and the microsd card slot doesnèt work without the drivers either so youèll have to use a thumb drive to get the drivers installed.

Was this on a 32 gb version? And did you notice how much space was left on the ssd after the install?

Been reading about others which did have a very hard time making a clean install with the dvd`s included in the package. Finally did it help on the trackpad which on mine works very spotty..

It's the 32 GB version.  If I look in the disk management consol I can still see an 11 GB recovery partition.

To install I used a retail copy of windows 8 pro and just installed right from the OS. Chose to keep nothing and it reinstalled without even asking for the product key.

I don't have the keyboard dock so I can't speak to the trackpad.

I did the same thing: clean install from a Microsoft provided Windows 8 Pro DVD then install the Intel Z760 driver package.  Worked like a champ.  I have the keyboard dock and haven't had any problems with it (well, other than that it's not multi-touch :-)

Of course, I didn't use the machine much with the Acer provided build before I re-installed so I don't know if there were any trackpad issues before that were fixed.  All I can tell you is that I haven't had any trackpad issues since I got it.

If you plan to re-install you'll need a USB hub as you must use an external USB keyboard and mouse - the only thing that works on the dock is the USB port until you install the Z2760 drivers.

I just installed right from inside the OS so I didn't need to boot from a cd.

That being said... If you hold power and down volume it will take you into the bios you can change boot order just like any other pc.

BUT like I said just put the disk in and run the setup exe and choose not to save anything and it will do a clean install.

Has anyone been able (or tried) to set up a dual-boot using a Windows 8 install on a SD card ? I have a project going that will use BitLocker to provide isolation between contexts.

Also still need a second power supply or a car charger or just a cord with the oddball connector.

so you didn't need to enter the product key? How about the activation process? how did you activate win 8?

May I ask where the driver packages come from? Acer's website, or somewhere else? And does everything work exactly as it normally does with Acer's software? I've never owned a tablet before this one, so I want to be sure I don't mess anything up. Smiley Tongue
