V573P-9899 Touchpad

I just purchased a V5-573P i7 full HD laptop. What an amazing laptop. Thin and light with an incredible vibrant responsive screen. Unfortunatlly (I've owned about 10 laptops) it's got the worst touchpad I've ever used. It's beyond me to understand how Acer could have created such a masterpiece of technology, yet overlooked something as basic as putting in a decent touchpad. I had hoped that I'd be able to learn to live with it, but allas I'll be returning this laptop before the end of my trial period. (I'd be happy to pay for installation of a custom trackpad if one was available)

Take note Acer: The touchpad on my older Compaq Presario V6120us had a silky smooth accurate touchpad with seperate click pads that required ideal presuure to depress them, so the mouse pionter would remain where you put it while highlighting for copy/paste operations.

Edit:

The trackpads on some of Acer's less expensive models (the ones with seperate click pads) work much better. I asked my local computer shop if I could order one of those and install it in the V5, but they said it wasn't possible.

Edit again:

By the way, if you are one that likes to use an external mouse or trackpad, I do recommend the V5, otherwise, avoid this model.

I'm not loving my V573P touchpad either because of the integrated click pads.  I'm going to give it most of Costco's 90 day return period to see if I can adapt, but if not it goes back.  Otherwise, and except for occassional freezing of the cursor for a minute, its a fine laptop.

I would say if there was an option in the touchpad setting to make the switch area not respond to finger movement it would solve my issue with it, as the switches work just fine.

I believed I have solved my issue with the touchpad and it's integrated swithches.  The Synaptics settings under "Additional Features" has SmartSense feature that allows the lower part of the touchpad to not respond to finger movement (if started there).  A setting of 0 seconds delay makes that work all the time.

Now I can select what I want with the upper touchpad area, release and touch the left or right of the bottom section, and now worry about the cursor moving off the selection.  Problem solved, it appears.

Acer, your people should have responded to this issue as I assume they are familar with this toughpad setting.
