No updates for Acer E1-531

There have been no updates for my Acer E1-531 which I have had since December 2012. Does this mean that nothing has been found to be necessary to have an upgrade during this time. That would appear to be unusual for a device such as a Laptop. Surely there would have been some innovation to the base software of this model ? I still have 2 USB ports on the operators front right side that do not operate consistently. Could this be an "update" technical issue. I have 2 of this model Laptop (one in August 2013) but I will refrain from future purchases if the update system is not attended to.

I think Acer have declined in support values during the last few years. I have purchase 6 during that time.

PS There is an update link on the start menu but despite constant checks there are NEVER any updates. Odd !!

If you mean there are no Windows Updates, that can be caused by a problem with Windows Genuine Advantage.

Also check whether Windows Update Service is running in Services.

Or do you mean no updates found via the Acer updater program?

No updates via the Start Menu/Programs folder of "ACER /  Acer Updater".

In all the Acers I have had there is never an updater update. This will be the last Acer I buy if this enquiry does not get a fix for the 2 USB ports that are working intermittently. I always get the excuse from Acer to go and see my local dealer. That is an expensive visit.

This fault has been on my last three Acer laptops. The line has been crossed unless this is fixed for FREE.

The drivers and download section contains the latest drivers that have been qualified by Acer for the specific product. Unless a radical change occurs, or improvements are made to the specification, a new driver is not always going to be qualified by us (Acer). As far as your USB ports working intermittently, that's generally based around the chipset, and there's 2 basic troubleshooting steps I would take before suggesting that you contact service.

    1. Uninstall the chipset drivers and restinall the ones off the site
    2. Reload the OS completely to ensure there aren't other problems causing problems.

If the USB ports continue to not work the system would probably require service based on the information I have.
