There's a ticking (clicking) sound coming through my speakers from my Acer Aspire PC tower, AMD Athlon 11 X2 (Dual Core), 4 GB, 1TB, DVD+/RW, NVIDIA GeForce. I took it to a shop and they said it could be a noisy hard drive, but it's not making a crunching sound. I thought it could be a fan bearing or even dust, and there are no "tool" marks on the case, so they didn't open it. Does anyone have a clue what it could be? I would appreciate your advice. ~klm 06/01/13

Thank you so much for making time to help me. You have confirmed my suspicions about my next. With this knowledge, I won't get ripped off again from that computer repair shop. I'm sure your correct. It is skipping over the hard drive like it's (missing) like a scratch on record. ~Kathie klm.

Hard drives do start making a clicking sound. I get nervious and replace any of mine that do, however I have run a "Noisy" hard drive for a few years without a problem. (On the other hand, Ive had enough go bad after starting to click, that I consider it an exception when they dont).

Yes It could be a fan, probably not dust (But it never hurts to open a pc up and clean it out). Maybe a cable got too close to a fan and its getting moved/hit.

If the sound is from your speakers though, it is more than likely something like your HD/CD/or a grounding problem (Check your outlets).
