Acer Aspire V5-573PG-9610 Windows Updates Failing

I'm the new owner of an Acer Aspire V5 573PG-9610. Whenever the computer attempts to perform automatic updates overnight, the updates fail and the computer has to revert to the previous version. I've updated to all the latest drivers and BIOS from the Acer site and attempted to only install the critical updates, all 81 of them! The computer just keeps attemtping to reinstall the updates and fails.

I can turn off automatic updates but there are quite a few security updates that I'd like to install. I am not going to go through every single update and install one at a time.

Forget about Windows 8.1. I've made 6 attempts at this and it fails every time. I've followed all the instructions on Acer's site and this is defintiely not happening. I'm giving this Notebook another few days and it's going to be returned!

Sorry for the rant but has anyone successfully updated to the latest updates or Windows 8.1 with this model?

    Hi...

    Try this method..

Press and hold the Windows key and then press the R key.
Then type WSReset.exe hit the "Enter".

Then go to Windows updates and start download once again and install them.

Before you update to Windows 8.1, you need to install all the Windows updates on this laptop. Try this.

    Hope it works..

I was finally able to get the upgrade to 8.1 working. I tried to install the 81 Windows updates that were queued up. The install failed and the computer reverted back to its base Windows 8 install. I then installed only the Microsoft patch that shows the 8.1 upgrade in the Microsoft store. I then unplugged any USB device and uninstalled the Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers. I even went into the Registry this time and deleted any key that referenced these devices.

I applied the Windows 8.1 upgrade and success!!! I think the key here was removing the registry keys for the graphics adapters. My next step it to go on Acer's site and download and install the updated 8.1 drivers for my devices and then to apply the Windows updates.

Oh, one thing I also did differently, I uninstalled McAffee and installed AVG. I did disable McAffee during my initial attempts but decided it was bloatware and dumped it. The computer runs much faster without McAffee.

THis Notebook has abeen a love/hate relationship so far. I think I'm back on the love side for now. I was tempted to by a similar spec Dell but the Acer was sleeker and just seemed to be built better.

This thread's a little old, but I'm having the same problems and was wondering if you could point a little more specifically to the registry entries you deleted after uninstalling the Nvidia and Intel drivers. Additionally, what drivers did you reinstall - the ones supplied by Acer, or the ones available on the Nvidia and Intel sites?

Like many others, I've tried uninstalling the drivers prior to install, and it seems like the installation gets further than before, but still bluescreened towards the end and reverted back to the previous install. Haven't messed with the registry yet, but I'm willing to try.

Also, have you noticed any driver or hardware problems since installing 8.1? Some have said there's been no problem, and others say there's massive problems (wifi controls not working, trackpad problems, etc).
