Acer Aspire V5-171 Battery Problem

Hi, any help gratefully accepted. I have the above machine and noticed that the battery had stopped charging but that the machine was still running ok. I purchased a new charger but alas it appears not to have been the charger at fault as the issue still persists. The machine will not switch on when just on AC power, i.e.. Battery disconnected.

When the charger is inserted the little indicator signifies that the battery is charging for all of about 15 seconds then it just stops. The problem I have now is that the battery is discharged, machine will not operate on AC power with or without the battery installed.

Does this machine have an internal fuse that may have gone, if yes how does one get to it. Any other ideas suggestions gratefully accepted.

If it's still under warranty, waste no time to contact customer support. I'm not aware of any fuses though there might be a manual re-set breaker but I kinda doubt it.

Thanks, warranty ran out 14 days ago. Have bought a new charger and it does not work also noticed that the little yellow light at the front no longer comes on. Have a horrible feeling that a power surge may have taken it out.

Agreed. No charging light --- not a good sign. On the outside chance that it may be a loose or cracked solder connection at the receptacle, have you tried putting a bit of side to side, up and down, in and out pressure on the plug  to see if the charge light may blink?

OK, some last shots. Do you have Win8 or Win7? Did you check to make sure you have the latest bios installed for your machine? There have been reports of sometimes intermittant notebook battery charging problems related to earliest bios releases. Not sure if this includes the V5 series. Also suggest running Acer's online hardware detection utility to make sure you don't have any driver issues affecting battery charging. Just plug in your ultathin model here.  http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

    I have the same problem.

    1. All the leds blink when running the notebook with the charger connected.

    2. Charges the battery when notebook is off.

I've checked all the driver and bios (released before jan-2014). all are updated.

    Warranty is over.

    My system spec: v5-171 W8-64bit

Maybe worth trying erecovery to factory defaults with data retention option to determine if it's more a software/driver issue than a power board failure.
