Is there an option for doing this?

I've seen some posts that suggest yes, but when I look in Control panel -> mouse -> elan: there are no such options; there are, on some of the menus, various options but not the above option.

Any advice?

You can try toggling the touchpad on and of with the Fn + F7 combo. Not exactly a tick or single key toggle but may be good enough for you.

Press and hold WinKey while pressing the R key. Run "main.cpl". Go to device settings on the menu and disable touchpad. Re-enable the same way.

    Thanks JackE

I was hoping for an option to tick that automatically turned the touchpad off while I was typing (and turned it on again when I finished) - like the pointer visibility option that is supposed to hide the location ofthe pointer while I'm typing (though it doesn't seem to be doing this while I'm typing now even though it's selected).

    Thanks again.

Shortcuts (ticks?) to turn the touchpad on and off are indeed possible. Do you use a wireless USB mouse?
