MicroHDMI to VGA - Acer W510, Windows 8.1

Has anyone tried to connect a VGA monitor to the Iconia W510 using a microHDMI to VGA cable?

I bought a cable and tried to connect the tablet to a Dell monitor but didn't have any luck: the monitor can't detect any signal and shows nothing. Windows 8.1 shows me there is a Dell monitor connected, but can't "detect" it using the detect feature (the Intel graphics utility also sees the monitor and even gives me the correct model number) or "identify" it when I click on "Identify"

The microHDMI-to-VGA converter also came with a power cable, which the manufacturer recommends plugging in if there is no signal. I have connected it but got the same result. My tablet is running Windows 8.1 and has the latest graphic drivers available installed and it's up to date with Windows update. The monitor works perfectly fine when connected to my Windows 7 laptop

Before returning the cable I wanted to know if anyone has experienced the same issue with this tablet / OS

Have used my W510 with two different VGA adapters (one with audio and one without), You are using an active adapter ? Just a gender changer won't work.

Although I am not totally sure what "active" means in this context, the description of what I bought include that word:

"Active Micro HDMI to VGA Male to Female Adapter"

'Active' in this context means the adapter does more than just cross the wires to match signal to signal. The HDMI signal is reinterpreted to provide the VGA signal. Since one is divital and the other analog you have to have an active adapter. Yours should work.
