    Hi CarlyleA

What actually happens when you try to switch it on? Do you see the Acer logo? Do you get any error messages? Does the fan start/hard drive start up? Is it completely dead?

Post back with more information, and I'll see if I can help further!

Ah, you have a corrupt user profile!

There is some advice here on how to remedy it, or drastically, a full reinstall of Windows will solve it (but you would loose all your documents ETC!)

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response, I a windows reinstall is where I'm headed. The machine turns on and the harddrive light flashes but nothing after that. If I leave it on I  can hear the fan running and the power light is on. I'm going to order a USB drive, so I can run a windows setup CD.

    Thanks for the help.

After pushing power button the Harddrive light flashes but nothing else happens except that fan runs. I'm going to order a USB drive so I can use a windows setup CD.

    Thanks for the help.

    Afterthought:

If it doesn't POST at all, it may be a motherboard issue....

That's typical behaviour of computers. I had it happen to me several years ago....

Can someone tell me if there is a place to go online where I can purchase the little retainer clip or zip connector the holds the keyboard ribbon onto the motherboard? I have an Acer Aspire 7741z-5731 which needs one, I have tried all the tricks online trying to put it back together and a Toshiba also and when I get them where they are typing almost every key the f2,2,w,s,and x will not work.  I could really use some help, as I said I have used all the options that are online and thats when I ran into the above keys not working.  I really need that connector...Smiley Happy   Thank you  Deb

    Hi deb

My honest answer is "I've no idea"!

Have you tried places like eBay, or possibly contacting Acer via email to see if they can supply one? Failing that, try visiting your local PC store who may be able to help!
