I have an Aspire M 481PT in which the webcam is not happy (doesn't work)

The settings show it works properly and that I have the latest driver.

When I check Acer Crystal Eye I get a message sayimg that it's discovered a new weccam and asks if I want to use it. When I click "yes" the message disappears then reappears aslking the same question. When I click "no" it disappears and the screen is blank with exception of the icons at the bottom for the camnera (none of which are active).

I understand that some people have connection issues dues to problems in the area of the hinge on the right.

Could this be a short between the computer and camera in this area or something else?

Any help you have would be appreciated.

What operating system is on the computer?

Have you attempted to restore the system to factory defaults?

    I'm running on Windows 8

I am cautious about restoring to original settings. Not sure what that will do to what I have do or loaded

Restoring to factory original settings will take the system back to day one from the factory.  It will restore the system to how it originally shipped, without any data, customizations or changes that you may have effected or added to the system.

Software is the easiest change to make to a system and is the line we pursue first, rather than suggesting that you send the system to your service center.

You will want to make sure that you have backed up any personal data that you would like to keep prior to starting recovery.
