x223w monitor not recognized by Windows 8

I was excited to get a brand new Windows 8 computer, but when I hooked up my existing Acer x223w monitor, there was nothing on the screen! Horrors! Totally blank with a NO SIGNAL message. I verified that the PC works fine, as I've hooked it up to my Sharp 46 TV. Seems like it should be compatible, so I'm scratching my head on this one. This is an HP Pavilion with 16GB memory and onboard video. Not yet ungraded to version 8.1. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Upgraded to 8.1 but the problem still exists. Windows Compatibity Center says the Acer x223w is compatible with Windows 8.1. It's a shame to have to purchase another monitor. What are your thoughts?

    Hi IPConfig

There are no reasons for your monitor not to work! Have you tried replacing the cable?

It will also be worth trying the monitor on a different PC. It is also possible than the monitor has failed too - bad timing I guess!

Let us know how you get on!

Recap: Acer x223w monitor worked fine with an older HP Pavilion computer running Vista 64, but it would not work with a new HP Pavilion computer running Windows 8.1.

Problem resolved: Replaced existing DVI-D cable with a VGA cable. Not sure why that would have made any difference, but it did. The monitor is capable of accepting both cable connections.
