ASPIRE M3985 BOOT PROBLEM

Recently the box gives me 3 short beeps twice on power up and then nothing.  I hear the HD spin up.  If I unplug the USB keyboard sometimes before starting the power up and then plugging it in it will boot into Win7.  I have run all kinds of diagnostics and found no system file corruption, malware, or virus.  Once up it runs fine until I shut down and then try to power up again.

    Hi W7ZR

It sounds as if you have a problem with a USB port.

Try using the USB keyboard in a completely different port. It may also be worth trying a different keyboard, ideally a PS2 one, to see if it makes any difference. If using a different port solves the problem, then I'd stop using that faulty port. If a different keyboard solves the problem, then the fault lies with your keyboard.

If however, the problem remains, even with a PS2 keyboard, then it may point to an underlying problem with your mobo.

Let us know how you get on!

It is not a USB port.  I found that by wiggling the HDMI cable I was able to boot the computer.   I replaced the cable and that did not solve the problem.  The next step is to add an PCIe  video card as my box has the video on the motherboard.

Have you tried booting up with the HDMI cable unplugged? I had sort ov the same problem, Couldent get in the bios screen, when cable was un plugged it booted up normaly. Just plug cable back in when it's up and running. Hope it's some help.

    UPDATE:

Yes, have tried boot without any USB devices or HDMI cable.  Installed a new video card to replace the onboard video.  Worked for a while but then the same problem.  Pulled and rotated the 3 memory sticks leaving one out a time and same problem.  Replaced the CMOS batter and same problem.  Today will be installing a new power supply.  Never a problem with the box once on so for now just leaving it on in between tests.

Is everything clean behind the fan so mobo's not over heating?

Yes everything is clean.  Problem is not heating since the problem only exists on power up.  Once box has successfully booted it works forever.  New power supply going in today.

    ANOTHER UPDATE:

Put the new power supply in and that was NOT the fix.  I checked settings in the BIOS and all seemed ok.  Here is how I can get the computer to get past POST and operate:

    1.  Remove USB keyboard ( I have tried several keyboards)

    2.  Press power button

    3.  Immediately plug in USB keyboard.

If I don't get it in quick enough I will get 3 beeps and then 3 beeps and then nothing.

Once the computer is on it never fails.

    MORE:

I find that the card reader is not working.  If I put a card in it appears as if it is reading it but it does not show up in Explorer.  I have uninstalled and rebooted and still get a Code 10 in the WPD File System Volume Driver.  Searched all over the internet for the proper drivers.  I would like to remove the cable from the reader to the motherboard but don't know where on the MBO it plugs.  So if anyone can lead me to: 1.  Drivers and/or 2. Where to pull the plug on the card reader.  Just a shot in the dark that this might be causing me some problems on boot.

Found the plugs for the USB2 and USB3 for the front panel.  When I pull the USB3 cable the caution messages for WPD Files System Volume Driver disappear.  I tried booting with the plug removed and no change.  Put the plug in while running and no change.

Solved the portable device driver issues by assigning a drive letter to each of the card reader ports.  So now still back at why computer will run all day but not turn on without playing with the usb keyboard connection.  Yes, tried different keyboards.
