Acer Aspire S7 392 Does not Boot after new Antivirus installation

Hi,

I had bought the Acer Aspire S7 392 in October this year from digitec.ch AG here in Switzerland. Everything was working well until 19th December when my McAfee Antivirus expired and I decided to change my antivirus to Comodo Internet Security. A month back, I had installed Windows 8.1 as well and things were running smoothly until last night. Last night, when I installed Comodo Internet Security, the computer requested a reboot, which I did, and then my computer went blank. I could not even reach the Acer logo at the startup.

As I tried to check the details regading this blank screen problem, Irealized that a lot of people are suffering from a similar problem. It seems that Windows 8.1 and a installation of a new antivirus may have lead to this blank screen problem. Also, it seems to be a bios problem as the computer would not start and I am hoping of anyone could help me in sorting this problem out.

Thanks a lot Acer-Tommy. I had to take it to Acer Support in Switzerland. It partially solved the problem. My S7-392 has an in-built battery which I had to reset which allowed for the laptop to reboot normally. As in, I was able to boot up to reach Windows 8.1. However, as soon as I logged into Windows, it soon hanged. Doing the reboot 3 times triggered the auto-repair/refresh option. Which I took and reverted back to Windows 8. I had a Bios 2.03 intead of 2.05 and I had to install the 2.05 before doing any updates. I would seriously recommend all people using the S7-392 to strictly follow the procedure for installing Windows 8.1 mentioned on the Acer website.

Please update your Bios to 2.05 before installing anything new, especially a new Anti-virus.

I would suggest looking to the Comodo Internet Security support area for any issues with Windows 8.1

It's not a piece of software that I'm familiar with or that I can support.

Alternatively, you can contact your local Acer service center for assistance.

I have a black screen and will not start. I have tried the suggested fix of starting with powercord, holding for 30 secs, plugging in power and restarting. Get Automatic Repair message and then machine powers down. I have a s7 3929890 model.

    Need help fast please

    Hi Bruce,

I understand that you are getting the black screen as well. However, I also notice that your problem is slightly different to mine. Did you also install some new software?

    Tell me something...

    1. Is your 392 with detachable battery or with an inbuilt battery? If it is an inbuit battery, then please keep pressing the button with a pin underneath your computer which will take your computer out of sleep mode. And, try to get a reset. You will NEED to get your reset options and get the computer to work through it, otherwise, I am afraid, you will have to take it to the service center and get it repaired.

I hope this works...let me know if there is some development.

    All the best

    Susmit

Smiley HappySmiley HappyBrilliant. You are a genius. As soon as I did the battery reset, it went to repair and restart and everything seems fine, though haven't put it thorugh it's paces yet. Thank you so much for seeing my post and responding. I was all for having to call Acer Support tomorrow, resigned to sending it in for repair, not having my PC for weeks. But thanks to you, doesn't look like I will need to. Once again, thank you so much.
