Good day guys

I bought brand new an acer aspire v5-171 with windows 7

I opened it and I saw two RAM slots, one vacant and the other with a 4gb DDR3

What is the maximum RAM that this laptop allows?

Thank you

Just to ley you know that Acer Aspite V5-171 CAN TAKE up to 16Gb, if you use 2x8Gb

I tried right now and it works fine Smiley Happy

    Thank you

They refer on this site that 16Gb is allowable, and they even sell it

    do you confirm?

It might only be able to access 8gb of the 16gb modules.

The ad for this 2x8gb kit states "In case that our indicated maximum memory upgrade for your Aspire V5-171 exceeds the initial specifications of Acer, we deliberately adjusted these figures upwards. By using CompuRAM memory, you are most often able to reach higher maximum values than originally indicated by the manufacturer. "

This statement suggests but does not guarantee you will benefit from a kit that exceeds Acer's 8gb max ram specifications. As I said above, you may be able to use the kit but may not be able to practically access more than 8gb of the available 16gb memory.

    Now I'm really confused

Actually I already bought this set

    http://www.ebay.de/itm/2x-8GB-16GB-DDR3L-1600-Mhz-RAM-Speicher-Acer-Aspire-V5-171-V3-771G-PC3L-12800S-/350841524222?ssPageName=ADME:LSmiley SurprisedU:US:3160

This German manufacturer clearly states that 2x8Gb is OK.

You're saying that when they are selling 16Gb, they are somehow cheating because the laptop will just use 8Gb?

As I interpret their statement,  you may --- or you may not --- benefit from installing 16gb into your Acer which has an 8gb max specification.

When you install the 16gb kit, you will then find out if there is --- or if there is not --- a benefit by checking the Windows system information utility.

So if the utility indicates 16gb of installed ram, then I would say, yes, there is a benefit. However, if the utility indicates 8gb of installed ram, then I would say, no, there is no benefit.

Please let us know which result you get after installing the 16gb kit. This will be useful for all of us to know. Thank you.

That's great! I'm happy to hear this. What did your Acer bios and the Windows system information utility actually detect for the amount of installed RAM? I'm wondering if my other laptops could benefit from something like this? Thanks, again. You've been very helpful!

Acer Bios I haven't checked but Windows system information shows 16Gb.

Check the previous image I have attached

    No problems Smiley Happy

That's wonderful. If Windows sysinfo sees 16 gb installed, I'd say all 16 gb will be available when called for.

For some reason, the image you posted seems to be in a placeholder and doesn't show up on my screen?

    Thanks again
