Hi. I need advice on transfering data from my old pc with windows xp to my new acer pc with windows 8. Apparently, the Windows Easy Transfer program doesn't work with xp. Any suggestions from this forum? Thanks!

In regards to your transfer of data problem, please consider using an external USB hard drive or flash drive to copy your data from the XP machine. Then attach it via USB to the new machine and copy the data over. One benefit of this is that the data stored on the portable device is an automatic backup.

Another idea would be to obtain 'cloud' storage online and copy your data up there IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE doing so. Once the data is verified 'up there', log into that location with the new machine and download it.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you for the tips. I just copied my data files to a flash drive that I'll keep as a backup. I think I'll copy all my files from the flash drive to one folder that I'll call something like Transferred Data. Whenever I need a file, I'll move it from the Transferred Data to a new folder in some organized fashion. After some reasonable period of time, I can delete the Transferred Data folder containing stuff that I never needed again. Kind of like throwing out moving boxes that you never opened in your new home. Does that seem reasonable? Thanks again for the help.
