Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 Using 7670M or 7650M dGPU?

On the online store sites that offer this laptop, AMD, and Acer's own site (before the page was removed) all state this laptop contains a Radeon HD 7670M dGPU. However, a lspci from Linux shows the dGPU to be a 7650M.

So which is it? The difference between the two chips seems to be only a clock difference, but I paid for a laptop with a 7670M specifically.

Catalyst states the GPU as a 7600M Series, which isn't helpful. Not sure what GPU-Z states, but I'll check soon.

V3-551G-X419 shows as NX.M31AA.027 on the AMD site and the bad link you're showing on the Acer site.

The part number that I'm showing for the -X419 model is NX.M0FAA.001.

Looking at the model specifications for that model shows:

    THAMES_XTAMD Radeon HD HD 7670M / 2G-DDR3 (128*16*8)

It's possible that there is a problem with the lspci that you are using being out of date.

Have you attempted to update-pciids ?

Please understand that we are unable to support an operating system that we do not ship on the computer.

Hmm, after doing a update-pciids (snapshot as of January 8th 2014), it's still calling it a [AMD/ATI] Thames [Radeon HD 7500M/7600M Series], with the Subsystem as Acer Incorporated [ALI] Radeon HD 7650M. This is the same case whether I'm using the latest stable 3.11 Kernel, or even today's 3.13 daily kernel.

According to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1191528 the Acer Aspire 7750G actually shows a 7670M in its lspci, which seems a bit suspecious now...

So, is there any more information about this? Is there perhaps another way I can verify the chip on the motherboard just to be sure? I'd hate to jump to conclusions without being completely sure, but so far it isn't looking too good...

The information that I provided above is all that there is.

Again, we are unable to support an operating system that we do not ship on the unit.
