When I do not lug in my w700 it lags alot even on high performace. I noticed that both chroe and IE are very slow. When playing videos there is a lot of lag. I have the i5 version. I have tried playing around with my power settings but nothing seems to works. I thought it was a flash problem when I noticed that my video playback was poor on sites running flash. Also when typing on search or in the browsers it takes a while for the touch keyboard to take in each gesture.

I would prefer to eliminate any software problems before suggesting that it is a hardware issue that would need to be seen in a service center.

I would suggest that you use the Recovery program to restore the system to factory defaults and see if the issue persists.

    Hi Tommy,

I've found a few forums on this topic so I'll assume there are multiple people with this issue. I have an Acer Iconia W700 i5-3337u tablet. The sluggish response issue only occurs when not plugged in. As the issue is not apparent when the device is plugged in it is highly unlikely to be a hardware issue (since we can get it to work fine). First off, is there any information or logs you require to help root cause this issue?

Question: Will using the recovery program you suggest below "return the device to factory defaults" wipe all data and return my tablet to windows 8 (it's upgaded to Windows 8.1) if so I do not think that is an adequate solution even if it does work and would only further prove a setting (SW) is the root cause.

In the following forum they seem to have linked the problem to a power saving setting:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-performance/acer-iconia-w700-slow-after-installing-windows-81/c6287ebd-7095-4364-b48e-068a82295778?page=2

    *snippet*

    And the answer is:

    Go to Control panel

    select Power option

    Set  it to 'Balanced'

    select 'Change options'

    select 'Change advanced options'

find 'Intel dynamic platform and thermal framework settings'

    click +

    open Low Power Settings

disable both On Battery and Plugged in.

    *end snippet*

Is this an adequate solution and what option does Acer recommend this setting be set to? If this setting should be set to enable then why is this setting causing the device to behave incorrectly?

Also, are you able to reproduce this issue on a Acer Iconia W700 series tablet?

    Thank you,

    Matt

I set mine to 'application specific' instead of 'disabled' when on battery. That should give somewhat better battery life than when disabled. I wish Intel would give more granularity on that setting... I think it likely Intel will tweak it in one of the forthcoming updates
