Computer is not charging, how do I determine if the issue is computer, battery, or charger?

First, use a DVM to see if the charger is charging. If it is then maybe the battery has failed. How old is it ?

Second, I have had instances where a battery has gone completely flat and a "smart charger" as in most computers will not recognise it. In that case I have had to remove the battery and use a dumb charger to put a surface charge on the battery and then the computer will recognise it. Of course to do that you need to be able to remve the battery.

Will the charger run the computer with the battery removed ?

    Thanks for the info,

Checking with a DVM it appears that the charger has failed, 120 VAC coming in and output not mearsurable at the computer plug.  If I used a dumb charger what voltage is needed?

It should say on the charger. Since you did not specify which computer (my Aspire Netbooks use 19vdc 2.15A but the W510 is 12v/2A) I cannot say. Make sure you get the right one though, some online suppliers list anything to make a sale.

ps you did check for DC output and not AC ?
