Windows 7 installation to new 2 TB drive failing on Acer M3900

I am trying to install Windows 7 to a new 2 TB drive after original drive crashed. Windows error: Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware.

Looking on Microsoft forums, I see an issue with Intel RST drivers and Windows 7. The fix requires loading the driver with Windows installation disks which is problematic with ERecovery type of reinstallation.

Does anyone have any solution?

    Hi Mcinvale

The best thing to do is:

    1. Go to the Acer support site & download all the drivers & applications for the M3900. Burn them to disk or save them to external memory. If you need the Intel RST driver too, download that from Intel's site.

    2. Download the Windows 7 ISO here. Make sure you do the correct one for your machine - HP 64bit etc. Burn the ISO to a blank DVD.

    3. Once done, load Windows from the disk, and use the product key from the side of your M3900. When Windows has finished installing, you may need to install the RST driver here. Then install the drivers & applications.

    4. You will need to activate Windows - this should take only a few moments. It should do it online, but if there are any problems, you can call Microsoft to help activate it.

    5. Download all Windows Updates, your programs & Anti Virus software, and finally all your documents etc.

You should then be good to go!

When you're finally up & running, consider using an imaging program to image your C: drive, so if you need to reinstall Windows at any point, it is easier & quicker just to re-image your drive!
