eRecovery Not Working

I own the Acer Aspire 7741z notebook. This is actually my wife's computer primarily, and somewhere along the way she picked up a virus or something. The computer has frequent issues. I've already backed up the important files, and had planned to do a full restore back to factory defaults, but the eRecovery program is not working for me. It starts the process, says it needs to reboot, verifies that I want to overwrite the data on the hard drive, and reboots. The problem is, it just reboots. No recovery process, no factory default reset.

I've verified the partitions still exist, and I've made no system modifications since purchase (no formats, etc). Of course, I'm no longer under the warranty period, so it seems getting help direct from Acer isn't going to happen.

Can anyone assist? I'd really like to restore this laptop to its factory defaults.

I have a similar issue with my aspire netbook.  We started getting blue screens whenever we would try to open internet explorer, now the netbook freezes during startup at the Windows OS screen.  I tried to access the eRecovery app using alt+f11 during startup but that only takes me to a black screen with a cursor.  Nothing happens at that point.  I have found limited help and can't use support since my netbook is out of warranty.  I would be willing to pay to open up a support ticket but I can't seem to find anything like that on the website.

This is my first and last Acer purchase.

Sorry, I'm not help, but you're not alone.

This whole situation is ridiculous. It shouldn't be this hard to restore a PC.
