The best thing to use is a USB to SATA/IDE adaptor. It will allow you to connect a standard SATA drive (or even the older IDE type) to a USB socket on another PC.

    USB to SATAorIDE.jpg

It also comes with a power supply. This will allow you to test if a hard drive is working, and you can even retrieve data from it. They are inexpensive and very useful indeed!

Or you can connect it inside a desktop PC just by using an additional SATA cable and an existing SATA power connector.

If none of the above is possible for you to do, you could ask a friend/family member if they can do it for you, or even ask your local PC store if they can test the hard drive for you.

    Hi active1345

Have you tried reinstalling Windows via the recovery partition? Press & hold ALT & F10 as soon as you see the Acer logo on start up.

If this too fails, it may be because the hard drive has a fault - which is why you cannot start the process from the recovery disks.

Is it a Windows 7 or 8 machine?

If it is a Windows 8 machine, boot into BIOS/UEFI and go to the BOOT setting. In there, look for LAUNCH CSM and select it. Save the settings then try again.

If it is a Windows 7 PC, then boot into BIOS and check that the computer "sees" the hard drive. If it does not, then it may be dead.

Enter your BIOS/UEFI and check that your hard drive is showing. If it isn't then it is likely dead.

If the hard drive IS showing, it may still be at fault. The best way of checking it would be to connect it to another PC - either internally in a desktop or via a sata USB adaptor. Check that the files can be accessed and even copy other files to it.

If there are problems reading or writing files, then the drive is faulty and will need replacing.

BIOSes can vary between PC's. It may be under "Integrated Peripherals" or similar. Check all the options. It may say something like, Sata port (followed by the port number).

Sorry I'm a little vague, but as I've said, BIOSes vary...

OK, in your list, I notice that where it says "HDD MODEL NAME:NONE" - it should list your hard drive make & model.

I think that your hard drive is not being recongnised. If it is possible, remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC. Doing this will prove if the hard drive is working or not. Do you have a friend/family member you can try it with?
