power board for LCD screen

I am not sure if this is the right thread to post this in. I have an Acer Aspire 8730; the power board for the lcd screen is dying, it is a small board just below the screen coverts power from the mother board. I have taken it to two tech's and both say it is this board. If you shine a light across the screen you can see the page, it is not very bright. They have told me replacing the screen won't fix the problem. Where can I purchase this board?

Thanks

  • They are correct. Replacing the screen won't cure the problem.

A number of inverter boards for your model are presently available on eBay (US).

However, check which you have before you buy - there are two - single and dual lamp.

how do you tell if it is a single or dual lamp?

thanks for the info! Appreciate your help!

  • The two lamp inverter board will have three connectors (an input at one end and two staggered outputs at the other).

The one lamp board has two connectors. It has an input at one end and a single output at the other.

Also, if yours is a single lamp inverter, don't be tempted to install a dual lamp one and only use a single output. If memory serves, it won't work as I believe both outputs would need to be connected. (They may well have different voltages too - dangerous - be careful!)

If you are in any doubt, you can also have Acer Service repair the fault. That way, you would be sure that the correct part will have been fitted.

Should you decide to attempt this yourself, you would do so entirely at your own risk of course.

    Thank you Alan!

Do you have any Idea what Acer would charge to fix the power board? Money is on the tight side as I have been fighting Cancer for the last three years. Any info would be appreciated. thanks in adavance.

  • Unfortunately, I can offer no insight as to Acer charges. They may have a set charge or they may need to inspect the laptop first - I really don't know I'm afraid. Best to give then a call and seek advice.

Perhaps it would be worthwhile getting quotes from your two tech's so you can compare. Good luck to you!

    Thanks Alan!

Maybe I will just plug in  a screen and use it as a desktop. Should still be able to use it that way.

    Thanks again.
