PQService

I replaced the hard drive on my PC which was cloned from the original HD. Everything is working OK except I keep getting a message that says "H refers to a location that is not available". When I look in "my computer" there is no H drive, but sometimes it pops up for a couple of seconds and I can see it is the PQService. How can I get rid of this message? It keeps popping up, even if I closed the screen it comes back after a few seconds. Everything works ok but it is annoying.  I am running Vista home edition and came with the PC

  • I suspect that you have only cloned your C: drive and not all of your original partitions. From what I have managed to find, the PQService is implemented by Acer and it is looking for your recovery partition which may not exist on your new drive.

I would probably try repeating the cloning and ensure that all original partitions are included.

The recovery partition was cloned and appears to be ok. Sometimes the PC boots fine with no message, but if I put in a cd, which is drive G, I get the message about the H drive not being accesable. The cd rom works fine in fact everything is working ok, but this message keeps popping up. Is there a way to just delete the recovery partition?
  • Should you succeed in deleting your recovery partition, how will you manage a reinstall if ever needed?

I would be trying to preserve it. I still feel your clone was not successful. Firstly, from what I can gather, PQService should not be 'H' but 'X'. Have you formatted any partition(s) since cloning? I ask because I am of the opinion that you have overwritten your MBR. Have you tested the recovery mode (ALT F10)? If I am correct, I suspect that will not work.
