AG3-605-U20 does not see Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250

I put one of these Hauppauge cards in the new machine and I can't see it anywhere in Device Manager and I don't see anything in the Event Logs. It wasn't working in Windows 8.0 and have since upgraded to 8.1 Pro, but no joy. I tried the Hauppauge install tools and the device is not found. Seems like it could be a BIOS issue. Any ideas?

    Hi tczupryna

Check that the card is seated properly or if you have spare port, try it in that. If Windows still fails to see the card, then it itself may be at fault.

Have you tried the card in another PC?

    Thanks for the reply.

I actually have 2 of the cards. I pulled one out of an older machine where it was working and the other out of the box. I've tried taking one out and swapping slots. So far nothing. They seem to be seated correctly, but I'll give it another shot.

As an afterthought, does the WinTV card need an additional power source? Make sure it's plugged in, and even try a spare lead from the power supply. If it does, and it IS plugged in, it may be that your power supply isn't powerful enough.

I thought about the power issue too. Considering the machine I pulled it from had a 350w supply (and similar internals) and this one has 500w, I don't see it. I tried using only one card and disabling all kinds of things in the BIOS (audio, network, etc) and still no joy. Also did the reseating.

I moved one of the cards back to the old machine and it still works there.

I also looked for any sign of it/them in the registry to no avail. Next thing is to try some other kind of PCIE card in one of these slots to see if it gets noticed (have to buy something).

I'm still pretty sure it is something in the BIOS.

Have you tried the card in a different PCI slot? It's rare, but once in a while you can come across a slot that simply doesn't work!

I'm not convinced its a BIOS problem, although if there is an upgrade for your machine, you could always try to flash it (but use EXTREME caution, as failing will usually kill your machine!)

Yeah, there are only 2 slots in the machine and I've tried them both. I may pick up a different kind of card today just to try something else in them.

I've had good luck with flashing so far. Knock on wood.

Thanks for all of the replies! I will let you know if I ever figure it out.

Well, it looks like Acer released a new BIOS for AG3-605's 2 days ago, but when I try to flash it I get an error saying it is the wrong ROM ID. Nothing is ever easy...
