    Hi,

I had similar problems and found the headphones will only work properly if NOT inserted fully. My Sony headphones need about 2mm away from full insertion. This also means the fitting is not very secure and works best if the tablet is then held in "landscape" mode so that the headphone socket is at the side and not at the base, where it can be easily disturbed. Does not seem to be the best of designs!

    Good Luck!!

I believe this is an example of the difference between the Nokia type headset and the Apple type. They both support stereo sound and a microphone, but the connections are ordered differently on the jack, with ground and microphone swapped between them. Look into TRRS Standards for more info.
