Laggy w700

Hi,

I picked up a new w700 a few days ago but have been battling with some issues with how unresponsive it can be at times. I have used an atom powered tablet qith 2gig of ram that felt more responsive than this. Most noticable is scrolling on web pages, moving finger up and down on the forum here it takes over a second to respond in either direction and stutters heavily. Typing on the keyboard after it opens usually results in some swearing as hangs on and off for a second or 2... press press press press nothing, then they all come at once.

I understand theres some driver issues with w8.1 so im guessing thats what is up, i upgraded to it as soon as i got it so i dont have a before and after comparison. Id rather sort this issue if possible rather than do a system restore and revert back to w8.

Reading through the forums it seems theres a power management and video card issue, so far inhave gotten the latest driverrs off the acer site but went to the intelsitr for the hd4000 drivers. First install ofnthe hd4000 driver i had the areo option ticked, read to disable that so did an un/re-install and sremed better but still not right.Im open to suggestions as to what can be done next. I read in another post about disabling thermal management...

Any info on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Luke

I have the same problem after upgrading to Windows 8.1.
They've posted a new driver for VGA but it does not work! Just a shame that Acer don't care.

Yeah got to say its extremely disappointing. I can always revert back to w8 but its a serious pain and shouldnt have to be. W8.1 wasnt a surprise release and as others have said, they should have been ready.

Right now im just looking for community found solutions. One thing i have noticed is webpage scrolling is far better with it in the docking station using a keyboard/mouse. Scrolling webpages otherwise is tedious at best.

Here's the solutions from member 1stTimeAcer via another thread:

To solve the slow down issue, you need to go to Edit the Power Plan Settings > Change advanced power settings > Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Settings > Low Power Mode Setting and change from enable to Application Specific or Disable.

I have reinstalled DPTF drivers from acer site but can't see "Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Settings" under Power Plan Settings.

Can you please tell me which driver to uninstall first?

Charm Bar; Settings; Control Panel; Power Options; Change Plan Settings; Change Advanced Plan Settings; Scroll down to Intel(R) Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework Settings; Check both the TDP level and low power mode.

Click on "Like" if you find my answer useful or click on "Yes" if it answers your question.

@billsey Thanks for the solution. Once I changed my energy plan my old tablet sprang to life. I was ready to go back to Windows 8.

I have tried reinstalling the dptf drivers and, no matter what, I cannot see this option in the power plan, advanced settings. I have enabled the 'change seettings that are currently unavailbale option'. Any ideas why this option is not there? Thanks

Same here. Trying to install the graphics drivers manually results in a 'code 34' error. Uninstalling the dptf drivers and reinstalling them seems to work, but no option is available in the advanced settings for the power plan. Can anybody shed any light on this Thanks

    Try this:

    http://station-drivers.com/download/intel/chipset/intel_DPTF_7.1.0.2103(www.station-drivers.com).exe

These are not DPFT the drivers Acer has on the site, but they are the latest DPTF fro Intel.  This is what I'm running.

To solve the problem of a laggy W700, follow these steps:

    power settings
    balanced
    change options
    change Advanced options
    intel dynamic platform
    low power settings > disable

WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE OPTION: INTEL DYNAMIC PLATFORM FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

    power settings
    balanced
    change options
    change Advanced options
    PCI Express > disable

the last option worked for me

I just moved my W700 up to Win 8.1 and got this laggy problem(CPU's clock speed max at 0.78 GHz). Setting Low Power Mode Setting On battery to "Disable" has fixed my problem.

How to force their Win 8.1 W700's Power Options > Intel(R) Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework settings > Low Power Mode Setting > "Disable"?

You will need uninstall DPTF Ver.7 which came as Win 8.1 driver and reinstall with old DPTF Ver. 06.00.05.1080 that came for Win 8.0. This old DPTF can be found at http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers (search for W700 Win8.0).

After uninstall DPTF Ver.7 with out reinstalling the old DPTF, the CPU's clock speed will go up as before upgrading but Window's Device Manager will show missing some drivers.

After installing old DPTF, the CPU's clock speed will max at 0.78 GHz again thus you need to set Low Power Mode Setting On battery to "Disable".

    Thank you to this board.
